Input data

Recently, a new feature from Google Ads became available for Ukraine – advertising with the goal of “Subscribing to a YouTube channel.” We didn’t keep ourselves waiting and protested how it works and whether it works at all.

Duration: 13 days.

Team: project manager, contextual advertising specialist, designer, proofreader.

Problem: the appearance of a new goal in Google Ads – “YouTube channel subscriptions” – opened up a potentially new path. However, without a real test, it remained unclear whether the algorithm was really optimizing for subscribers, or whether it was just a formal goal without a real effect, and what the cost of attracting one subscriber would be.

Goal: to test a new Google Ads feature – advertising campaigns with the goal “YouTube channel subscriptions” – and to check whether this tool really works in practice and how cost-effective it is to attract subscribers through paid advertising.

Tasks

set up and launch a campaign with the goal of "YouTube channel subscriptions";
create video creatives adapted to different formats;
test the effectiveness of a new type of campaign in practice;
get subscribers at minimal cost;
compare Google Ads data with YouTube analytics to confirm the result.

List of works

1
/
We have prepared an attraction campaign optimized for the conversion of YouTube channel subscriptions.
2
/
We created responsive video ads that cover different combinations of ads in the most relevant formats, such as skippable in-stream ads, in-feed video ads, and YouTube Shorts ads.
3
/
We launched an advertising campaign and tracked the results.

Results

Within a short test period, we were able to evaluate the effectiveness of a new type of campaign and obtain measurable results that confirm the feasibility of using this tool to promote YouTube channels. The algorithm was really optimized for the target action, and not just spent the budget on views. To eliminate the error, we compared Google Ads data with YouTube analytics: the numbers matched, and the subscribers were real.

Conclusions

The campaign with the goal of “Subscriptions to the YouTube channel” is not a marketing myth, but a functional mechanism with a measurable result. At the same time, the quality of subscribers is confirmed – these are not bots or random clicks, but people who consciously subscribed to the channel. So for businesses and personal brands looking to launch ads on YouTube, this tool is worth having in your arsenal.
